Today Jian (took the photo of him by surprise, lol) and I are going to go out for dinner together. Jian and I are coffee pals back in Auckland. Never really got to know him until he left to Canada. My first memory of him was during my interview for AIESEC. Jordan and Jian were my interviewers. My first impression of these two boys were: serious. They were really serious and professional during the interview. But one last question really took away this adjective I had for them, haha, I remember the question they asked was 'if you can choose to be a cat or snake, what would you be?'. At that time, I was thinking, 'what da hell is going on with these two boys?' But since they look so 'serious', I shall take this question seriously. After some thought, the answer that jumped out from my mouth even surprised myself. I answered, 'Dog'. Random huh? Well, I guess that's how our friendship started, random but nice.
Tonight's dinner was just so nice. It's been so long since we last had a chat. It's quite hard to have real catchup times now. Especially with the technology advancements, we just think that we'll keep in touch via emails and texts or something. But to be able to sit down and enjoy some 'real human' time is something I treasure, especially with my closest friends.
Jian knows me well. As soon as we sat down (after picking Bali Thai as our restaurant in Raffles City and Jian making the menu decisions), he asked one simple question, 'so how are you?'. That's really enough for me to open the flood gate and talk about everything. Updates about me, updates about him, the night was too short. Jian was too kind. He bought me dinner for one reason, a special day in a few days time for me. Thank you Jian.
Dinner tonight was casual, slow and warm. We had a full table of dishes, and both of thinks that Bali Thai was actually quite authentic! Recommend =) We talked about university, career, relationship, Beijing, Auckland and the list goes on. The more I talk to Jian, the more interesting things I found about him. He's actually much more funny and loud that what usually people perceive him to be. He's very caring and pays a lot of attention to details. The amount of effort he put into relationship (love, friendship and family) are amazing. Feel glad for his future girl, for finding someone perfect =)
After dinner Jian took me to a dessert shop. This is actually the main goal of tonight, and it's the place that he planned to take me to, then we realised, we need to have dinner first, lol. The dessert shop is also in Raffles City shopping centre, it's called Honeymoon 满记. It's the most popular and famous dessert shop in Hong Kong and now it's expanding into China. The most popular ones are like mango sago, durian desserts etc. They all use fresh fruit in the dessert, sweet and healthy. Jian picked grassjelly with sago, and I picked fresh mango with glutinous red rice and sago, and together we shared a mango & cream glutinous balls. There are just no words I can think of in describing these desserts. It's just too amazing, too good, too tasty, too unbelievable, too memorable. It's sooooooo amazing. The price ranges from between 10-30rmb, but one bowl like mine (Mango with glutinous red rice and sago, 28RMB) was way more than enough to fill you up. But!!! It's not toooooo sweet to be unbearable. The mixture of the coconut taste sago with red rice and fresh mango are just perfect!!!~~!~!~!~ I just can't stop kissing my finger tips and say 'perfect', haha, it's sooooo good!!!
Thank you Jian. For a memorable night. Will miss you heaps when you leave Beijing on the 20th December (so soon.....>_<) and can't wait to catchup again in Auckland!!
